"Munak Canal Breach Repaired; Dwarka Plant Water Supply Restored".
The Munak Canal breach that caused flooding in the Bawana area and disrupted water supply across various parts of the city has been repaired, the Delhi government announced on Friday.
In a late-night statement, officials indicated that water is expected to reach the Dwarka plant by Saturday morning. Residents have faced water shortages since the breach occurred in one of the canal's sub-branches, which channels water from Haryana to Delhi, late Wednesday.
Delhi Water Minister Atishi explained, "The embankment was breached at the Bawana entry point. A 7-meter-wide and 15-meter-long soil embankment has been constructed. Its compression has also been completed."
She further mentioned that the concrete lining work is ongoing and takes about five to six hours to set. "We anticipate that Haryana will release water into the Munak Canal around 7 am tomorrow," she said.
The minister assured that water supply from the Dwarka plant is likely to resume by Saturday morning. She noted that a team from the Haryana Irrigation Department, responsible for the construction and maintenance of the Munak Canal, is at the site, supported by the Delhi Jal Board.
Addressing the situation in the affected area and the JJ colony, Atishi said the water has been cleared, and a health camp has been set up to provide medical services due to the risk of waterborne diseases. "Today, over 100 people received medical check-ups at the health camp," she added.
Water has been drained from all affected areas, and electric power has been restored. Residents have returned to their homes, with food provisions supplied until Friday morning. The breach in the Munak Canal's sub-branch, the Career Line channel (CLC), occurred between midnight and 2 am on Thursday, leading to water flooding into multiple areas of Bawana. This breach affected water treatment plants in Dwarka, Hyderpur, Bawana, and Nangloi, the minister said in a digital briefing from the site on Thursday.
