Gandhinagar Metro reaches Mahatma Mandir on Vijayadashami with extended trial run.
On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, the Gandhinagar Metro successfully extended its trial run to Mahatma Mandir, the final station on the route. The successful run, which took place recently, marks a significant step toward making the full 68-kilometre metro route operational between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
Previously limited to Sachivalaya, the trial run has now expanded to include five additional stations: Akshardham, Old Sachivalaya, Sector 16, Sector 24, and Mahatma Mandir, according to a press release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). The successful completion of this trial run is a key milestone under the ongoing supervision of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, whose guidance has accelerated the metro's progress.
Following the completion of the trial run and the necessary internal checks, the Metro Rail Commissioner will seek approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). The metro services up to Mahatma Mandir are expected to be fully operational by the start of the New Year.
Once the entire 68-kilometre route is complete and operational, the metro will provide a more affordable, comfortable, and environmentally friendly travel option for commuters.
The announcement was made alongside other key events in Gujarat, including the observance of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel paid tribute to Gandhi at his birthplace, Kirti Mandir in Porbandar, and participated in a prayer meeting. He praised Gandhi's vision of 'Swadeshi' and 'Atmanirbhar' ideals, which align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of building a 'Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat'. The Chief Minister also extended greetings on the festival of Vijayadashami.
