NTPC Plans to Add 4.38 GW Thermal and 14 GW Renewable Capacity by March 2027.

State-run power producer NTPC has outlined plans to add more than 4 gigawatts (GW) of thermal capacity and 14 GW of renewable energy to its portfolio by March 2027, as the company accelerates its expansion across conventional and green power.

For FY26, the country’s largest power generator aims to commission 2.78 GW of thermal capacity and 6 GW of renewables. By the first half of FY26, NTPC had already added 2.78 GW of thermal power and 2.98 GW of renewable capacity.

In FY27, the central public sector utility plans to add 1.6 GW of thermal capacity and 8 GW of renewable energy.

As of the second quarter of FY26, NTPC Group’s total installed capacity stood at 83.9 GW, with standalone capacity at 60.7 GW. The group added 4.403 GW in the first half of the fiscal year, comprising 1.732 GW on a standalone basis, 1.506 GW through NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) and its joint ventures, and 1.165 GW via other JVs and subsidiaries. An additional 956 megawatts (MW) was commissioned in October.
