Delhi Unveils ₹6,114 Crore Water Infrastructure Programme, Opening Major EPC Opportunities
The Delhi government has announced a ₹6,114 crore water and sewerage infrastructure programme aimed at modernising the capital’s urban utilities, expanding wastewater treatment capacity and reducing pollution in the Yamuna River.
The investment covers 33 new Delhi Jal Board (DJB) projects, whose foundation stones are scheduled to be laid on October 22, 2026. These form part of a broader ₹8,941 crore initiative comprising 43 projects, including 10 completed schemes worth ₹2,827 crore.
Key components include the construction of a 124-million-gallons-per-day sewage treatment plant at Okhla, modernisation of eight existing treatment plants, and development of 29 decentralised sewage treatment and pumping facilities across outer Delhi. The wider programme also includes sewer network expansion and improvements to water treatment infrastructure.
The initiative is expected to generate significant opportunities for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors, particularly in civil construction, pipeline installation, electromechanical equipment, wastewater treatment technologies and automation systems.
For infrastructure developers and equipment suppliers, the programme signals a substantial pipeline of public-sector investment. Tender releases, package allocations and implementation schedules will be critical indicators of near-term contracting opportunities.
