Hyundai Motor Group Unveils $15.5 Billion India Investment Plan Through 2032 to Expand Manufacturing, R&D and Future Mobility

New Delhi, October 13, 2026: Hyundai Motor Group has announced a massive $15.5 billion investment programme in India for the period 2026–2032, marking a significant expansion of its manufacturing, research and development, and next-generation mobility operations in the country. The seven-year investment initiative aims to strengthen India's position as a global automotive manufacturing and export hub while supporting technological innovation, localisation and supply-chain development.

The investment announcement followed discussions between Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The programme will cover Hyundai Motor India and Kia India's manufacturing operations, advanced engineering infrastructure, domestic supplier development and emerging mobility businesses.

A major component of the proposed investment is approximately $700 million earmarked for the group's Indian research and development operations, including upgraded engineering facilities and a vehicle testing track. The expansion is expected to strengthen India's capabilities in automotive technology development, vehicle engineering, product localisation and advanced mobility solutions.

On the manufacturing front, Hyundai Motor Group plans to progressively expand its existing production footprint across India. The group's combined annual manufacturing capacity currently exceeds 1.4 million vehicles, supported by Hyundai's facilities in Chennai and Pune and Kia's manufacturing operations in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The company intends to ramp up capacity at its Pune facility in phases and is evaluating the possibility of an additional manufacturing location to support long-term growth.

Beyond conventional vehicle manufacturing, the investment programme will focus on electric vehicle charging infrastructure, automotive financing, vehicle recycling, mobility services and partnerships with technology companies and start-ups. Hyundai also plans to deepen collaboration with Indian component manufacturers to increase domestic sourcing, strengthen supplier capabilities and develop a more integrated automotive ecosystem.

To support the programme's implementation, Hyundai Motor Group intends to establish a dedicated investment entity in India to oversee capital deployment, strategic partnerships and emerging investment opportunities. The initiative is expected to generate additional employment across manufacturing, engineering, R&D and the automotive supply chain.

From an investment and industrial development perspective, the announcement represents a major long-term opportunity for India's automotive sector, with potential demand for new manufacturing facilities, plant machinery, automation systems, testing infrastructure, industrial construction, automotive components and electric mobility technologies.

The programme could also open significant business opportunities for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors, industrial equipment manufacturers, technology providers and automotive component suppliers as individual projects move into implementation.

While the overall investment commitment has been confirmed at $15.5 billion, Hyundai Motor Group has not yet disclosed a complete project-wise capital allocation, detailed construction schedules or final investment amounts for individual facilities. These details will become important for tracking future project announcements, supplier contracts and procurement opportunities.

The investment underscores Hyundai Motor Group's long-term commitment to India, positioning the country not only as a major domestic automotive market but also as a growing centre for global manufacturing, engineering innovation and next-generation mobility technologies.
