India's Data Centre Investment Boom Accelerates; ₹2.84 Lakh Crore Development Opportunity Emerges by 2030
India's data centre industry is witnessing unprecedented investment momentum, with approximately ₹2.84 lakh crore in development capital requirements projected through 2030, driven by artificial intelligence, cloud computing and hyperscale infrastructure expansion.
The sector's growth accelerated during 2020–2021, strengthened between 2022 and 2024, and entered a major investment cycle in 2025–2026.
Major commitments include Google's US$15 billion AI infrastructure hub in Visakhapatnam, Microsoft's US$17.5 billion cloud and AI expansion programme, and Amazon Web Services' US$12.7 billion planned Indian cloud infrastructure investment, including US$8.3 billion earmarked for Maharashtra.
According to Cushman & Wakefield, India's operational data centre capacity reached 1,789 MW by mid-2026, with another 509 MW under construction and 3,351 MW planned. Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi NCR and Visakhapatnam are emerging as major investment destinations.
The expansion is expected to create significant opportunities for Larsen & Toubro, Schneider Electric, Vertiv, ABB India, Siemens, Cummins India, CG Power, Hitachi Energy and Apar Industries, supplying construction services, transformers, switchgear, power distribution systems, backup generators, cooling equipment and electrical infrastructure. These companies are potential beneficiaries, not necessarily confirmed contractors for the announced projects.
Demand for AI-ready campuses, high-density computing facilities and reliable power infrastructure is expected to sustain EPC contracting and equipment procurement opportunities throughout 2026–2030.
However, the projected investment requirement and corporate commitments represent different measures and should not be added together as confirmed project expenditure.
