Telangana CM Appeals to Public for Support of Musi Rejuvenation Project.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently urged citizens to back the ambitious Musi Rejuvenation project, aimed at reviving the long-neglected river and safeguarding Hyderabad from future floods.

Speaking after inaugurating the restored Batukamma Kunta Lake in Amberpet, the CM highlighted the city’s vulnerability, noting that even rainfall exceeding two centimeters often causes flooding in Hyderabad. He pointed to climate change and frequent cloudbursts as key challenges, adding that the state government has devised plans to strengthen infrastructure and environmental protection.

Revanth Reddy criticized previous governments for allowing the Musi River to turn into a dumping ground, emphasizing the project’s importance in reviving water bodies and restoring abandoned lakes and ponds. “Our government is moving forward to protect water bodies and revive the abandoned lakes and ponds under the Musi project,” he said, urging public support to shield the city from natural calamities.

The Chief Minister also noted that even an hour of rain results in flooding in habitations along the Musi catchment area. He directed Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to conduct field visits and prepare proposals for rehabilitating vulnerable residents in Amberpet’s Musi catchment zones.

Addressing issues related to land, the CM cautioned people against falling prey to land mafias selling government assets cheaply, assuring that his administration stands firmly with the poor. “We are aware of the plight of the poor unlike the opposition which considers poverty an excursion,” he said.

Revanth Reddy also praised the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) for its efforts in protecting water bodies and removing encroachments. Despite initial resistance, HYDRAA successfully cleared encroachments on Batukamma Lake and restored it at a cost of ₹7.15 crore. This lake is one of six water bodies rejuvenated by HYDRAA with a total investment of ₹58.40 crore.

The event saw a large gathering of women performing the traditional Bathukamma festival near the lake to welcome the Chief Minister.

Earlier in the day, the CM laid the foundation stone for 39 new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) across Hyderabad, with a total investment of ₹3,849.10 crore, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving the city’s water and sanitation infrastructure.
