PM Modi Announces New Airport Near Maharashtra’s Vadhavan Port.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced plans for a new airport near the Vadhavan Port project in Maharashtra during a campaign launch for the BJP-led alliance in Dhule district on Friday. The airport project, valued at ₹76,220 crore, will begin as soon as the election code of conduct lifts, Modi said, following a longstanding request by former Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis.

The Vadhavan Port, approved by the Union Cabinet in June 2024, is set to become India’s largest deep-draft, all-weather greenfield major port, located in Palghar district. It will be developed under Vadhavan Port Project Limited (VPPL), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) jointly owned by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) (74%) and the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) (26%).

Modi underscored the government’s commitment to large-scale infrastructure, criticizing opposition attempts to obstruct progress. He also addressed the needs of onion farmers in Nashik, announcing revisions in export policies to support the agricultural community.
