NIBE Group Launches Advanced Defence Facility in Shirdi With Defence Minister, Maharashtra CM.

NIBE Group recently inaugurated its state-of-the-art Defence Manufacturing Complex in Shirdi, Maharashtra, marking what it described as a key milestone in India’s indigenous defence production ecosystem.

The facility was inaugurated in the presence of Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, alongside senior military officials, defence scientists, and other dignitaries including General Anil Chauhan and Dr. Samir V. Kamat.

The integrated complex has been positioned as a next-generation defence manufacturing ecosystem covering advanced artillery systems, missile technologies, ammunition production, rocket systems, energetic materials, autonomous platforms, and space-related technologies. It includes a 155mm ammunition shell manufacturing facility with a planned annual capacity of 5 lakh shells, indigenous TNT and RDX production plants, a bio-CNG and hydrogen fuel unit, and infrastructure for space and satellite technology development.

A major highlight of the event was the ceremonial unveiling of “Suryastra”, a 300 km universal rocket launching system, which the company described as India’s first indigenous platform of its kind, aimed at enhancing long-range precision strike capabilities. The event also showcased trials of a 100 km-class loitering munition system, reflecting the company’s expanding footprint in advanced warfare technologies.

Addressing the gathering, Rajnath Singh lauded the company’s contribution to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and said such capabilities would help accelerate India’s progress toward self-reliance in critical defence technologies. Devendra Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra’s growing role as a defence manufacturing hub, citing the development as a key step in strengthening the state’s emerging defence corridor across multiple regions.

NIBE Group chairman Ganesh Nibe said the company remains committed to supporting the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by building indigenous capabilities, reducing import dependence, and positioning India as a global defence manufacturing hub.

The company said the new complex is expected to generate over 3,000 direct jobs while fostering an ecosystem for defence innovation, MSME participation, and advanced technology development.
