Metro Railway to Reschedule Services on Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Stretch Starting Nov 11.

Metro Railways Kolkata announced that services on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade stretch will be rescheduled from November 11 to accommodate ongoing tunnel construction between Esplanade and Sealdah. From this date, the West-bound rake will operate between Howrah Maidan and Mahakaran instead of extending to Esplanade. Meanwhile, East-bound services will continue as usual between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade on weekdays from 6:55 am to 10 pm, with Sunday operations from 2:15 pm to 9:50 pm.

The revised schedule will increase weekday services on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade stretch (Green Line-2) to 150 from the previous 118. Sunday services will remain at 46 trips.

The changes follow recent water leakage in the East-West Metro's under-construction tunnel at Bowbazar on September 5, marking the fourth such incident since 2019. Strengthening efforts are underway, with Metro Railway General Manager P Uday Kumar Reddy inspecting the site and urging timely action to prepare the tunnel for eventual service extension to the Salt Lake Sector V stretch.
