India's Solar Manufacturing Gets Boost, PLI Capacity Hits 18.6 GW.
India's solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing capacity has reached 18.6 gigawatts (GW) under the government's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, marking a significant step towards energy self-reliance. This data was provided by Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy, Shripad Naik, in a written response to a query in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
As of June 30, 2025, solar manufacturing capacities installed under the PLI scheme stood at 18.5 GW for solar modules, 9.7 GW for solar cells, and 2.2 GW for ingot-wafers. This information was compiled from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) and reports submitted by manufacturers.
Responding to a question about project timelines, Minister Naik clarified that the operationalization of awarded solar PV manufacturing capacities is dependent on various factors. These include land acquisition, financial closures, procurement of capital equipment, and installation. As a result, it is not possible to set a fixed date or period for when these new facilities will become fully operational.
