Goa Government Plans ₹192 Crore Modern Bus Stand for Mapusa on PPP Model.
In a move to address a long-standing demand from Bardez residents, the Goa state government has announced plans to construct a new, modern bus stand in Mapusa. The project will be built under a public-private partnership (PPP) model with a total investment of approximately ₹192 crore.
The decision follows recent reports highlighting the dilapidated state of the current bus stand, which has been plagued by potholes, garbage dumps, and waterlogging during the monsoon season.
The new bus stand is planned to be developed over an area of more than 27,000 square meters. It will be a significant upgrade, offering:
Parking: Over 700 parking spaces, including dedicated spots for two-wheelers (500), four-wheelers (200), and staff.
Amenities: Two air-conditioned waiting lounges with WiFi, a cargo service facility, a restaurant, and a ticket area with automatic vending machines.
Passenger Convenience: Separate washrooms for men and women, baby-feeding rooms, drinking water, a help desk, and full accessibility for wheelchairs and luggage trolleys.
The project will be executed on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, with the successful bidder responsible for the entire development, operation, and maintenance of the facility before transferring it back to the government.
A senior government official noted that the strategic location of the Mapusa bus stand, situated in a commercially and culturally significant area, makes it an ideal spot for a modern transport hub. The project will include not just bus terminal facilities but also a commercial complex to ensure it is commercially viable. The bus stand's core facilities are expected to be completed within 24 months, with the business complex following within 36 months from the appointed date.
