DRDO Proposes Centres of Excellence.
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has proposed to set up knowledge centres and centres of excellence (CeO) across the country, for which Rs. 500 crore will be set aside in its budget.
Addressing a gathering at the third convocation of Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (IITBBS) as chief guest here on Saturday DRDO Secretary, Avinash Chander, said they were committed to boosting their interaction with student community to create better innovations.
“Our long-term vision is to set up DRDO laboratories adjacent to premiere institutes to enhance student exposure. The DRDO laboratories can double up as incubation centres for these institutes, which will be another shot in the arm for the students and their research,” said Chander, who is also Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister.
Adding that the DRDO facility in Balasore is working closely with IITBBS, Chander said a major credit for the country’s success in developing indigenous missiles goes to Odisha. He also said there was a pressing need to bridge the wide gap between industries, academia and research. The research and development sector is still under-developed in the country.
