Bengaluru Metro Phase Two Completion Set for 2025, Announces Dy CM DK Shivakumar
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar revealed on Thursday that Reach 6 of Phase 2 of Namma Metro in Bengaluru is set to be operational by 2025. Addressing media representatives after presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony for the metro tunnel at the K G Halli metro station, Shivakumar expressed confidence in the progress of the Phase 2 Reach 6 Metro work, asserting its readiness for public use by 2025.
"The total length of the tunnel on this route spans 13.76 km, with a stretch of 12 stations between Dairy Circle and Nagavara. The total length of the route from Kalena Agrahara to Nagavara is 21.26 km," he disclosed.
Providing an update on the project's advancement, Shivakumar stated, "Nine tunnel drilling machines are currently in operation, with seven nearing completion. Approximately 75% of the work on the 12 stations along the route is finished. The construction of this segment is entrusted to Afcons, L&T, and ITD."
Highlighting the significance of interchange stations at Jayadeva Hospital, MG Road, Cantonment, and Nagavara, Shivakumar praised Namma Metro for meeting international standards and surpassing Delhi Metro in quality and passenger comfort.
"We are considering constructing tunnel roads in Bengaluru to alleviate traffic congestion. Observing tunnel drilling firsthand aids in comprehending its challenges," he remarked.
Responding to inquiries about the airport metro line, Shivakumar disclosed, "The project is progressing rapidly. We've instructed the construction of two-level structures where pillars are yet to be cast, with one level for road use and the other for the Metro. BBMP and BMRCL will collaborate on this initiative."
Regarding the earlier estimated completion date of the airport line by 2024, Shivakumar revealed, "Approximately 98% of land acquisition is completed, and construction work is 53% finished, with progress ongoing on the 17 elevated Metro stations."
Asked about potential announcements for new Metro lines in the upcoming state budget, Shivakumar stated, "We've directed the preparation of DPRs for Tumakuru, Anekal, and Bidadi routes. Further details will be shared once the DPR is finalized, with plans to coordinate with the Centre on the Metro project."
