Chennai-based Shubh Swasan to scale up production.

Chennai-based textiles manufacturer Shubh Swasan will increase manufacturing of its mattress protector, its flagship product, to tap into a growing domestic market for hygienic home furnishings.

It launched the cotton fabric last September. The facbric protects cushions from dust-mites, carriers of allergy-inducing germs, said Krishna Kumar Baheti, Director-Technicals, Shubh Swasan.

The company's factory near Chennai makes over 10,000 pieces of mattress protector 'Sleepsafe' and sells it across 10 cities in the country, at Rs. 2,000 for large mattresses and half the price for single-beds. Kumar says the market, in terms of sales, is 20,000 pieces a month in Chennai, the reason it is going for expanded capacity. The company will scale up production to over 25,000 pieces a month in a year.

The product is available at mattress and curtain shops, and on its website. The company will go for exports in coming years, once its brand is established in the Indian market.

The six-year-old company recorded a turnover of Rs. 50 crore in 2013-14. Revenue is expected to improve in the coming year on the launch of new product to safeguard pillows in hospitals, said Kumar.
