Andhra Pradesh, VPA Sign ₹29,253 Crore MoU to Establish National Mega Shipbuilding Cluster.

The Andhra Pradesh Government and Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a National Mega Shipbuilding Cluster at Duggirajapatnam.

With an estimated investment of ₹29,253 crore, the project aims to create a world-class commercial shipyard ecosystem, providing globally competitive shipbuilding infrastructure and fostering an integrated maritime environment, the State Government said in a release on Tuesday.

As per the MoU, the Andhra Pradesh Government will undertake roads and other civil works on the landside and contribute land as equity. Meanwhile, the VPA will be responsible for all seaside infrastructure. A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be formed to oversee and implement the project, partnering with global private shipbuilding firms.

This initiative is expected to boost the region’s maritime capabilities and strengthen India’s shipbuilding sector on the global stage.
