Western Railway has officially launched a redevelopment initiative aimed at enhancing 124 railway stations across its network, focusing on providing passengers with modern and efficient facilities. The project encompasses key stations across various divisions, including 30 stations in the Mumbai Central Division, 18 in the Vadodara Division, 19 in the Ratlam Division, 20 each in the Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar Divisions, and 17 stations in the Rajkot Division.
The initiative prioritizes upgrading infrastructure to enhance passenger experience and streamline railway operations. Progress is already visible at Dakor, Pratapnagar, and Godhra stations in the Vadodara Division. The upgrade at Dakor station, recognized as an "Amrit Station," is being carried out with an investment of ₹6 crore. Planned improvements include modern waiting areas, upgraded restrooms, and drinking water kiosks.
Infrastructure enhancements are being made to manage increased passenger traffic more efficiently, including the construction of additional foot overbridges, platform expansions, and covered sheds, along with the installation of escalators to improve accessibility.
"Additional entry and exit points are being constructed at these stations to manage peak-hour crowds," an official stated. The redevelopment plans also incorporate design elements reflecting local art and culture, such as murals and sculptures, aimed at enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the stations.
Moreover, the initiative includes the installation of solar panels, waste management systems, and water harvesting facilities as part of a broader green initiative. Enhanced CCTV surveillance is also being introduced to ensure greater safety and security for passengers.
With Dakor's significance as a pilgrimage destination, the modernized station is expected to improve visitor experiences and promote tourism. "The redevelopment will boost local businesses and create new employment opportunities. Improved connectivity and passenger-friendly facilities at Dakor station will particularly benefit those visiting the renowned Ranchhodraiji Temple," the official added.
The redevelopment of Pratapnagar station will also focus on preserving the region's historical and cultural significance. "Design elements will highlight local heritage through arches, stonework, and iconic images of the Lakshmi Vilas Palace, blending modern amenities with historical charm," the official concluded.
