West Bengal Boosts Rail Manufacturing with Hindustan Motors Land Transfer to Titagarh Rail.

In a significant move set to boost the state's manufacturing capabilities, the West Bengal Cabinet on Monday approved the transfer of approximately 40 acres of land to Titagarh Rail Systems. This land, previously held by the C.K. Birla Group-owned Hindustan Motors, will be utilized by Titagarh Rail for the production and commissioning of metro coaches and Vande Bharat trains.

The decision, made during a State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, marks a key step in repurposing idle industrial land for new economic activity. The 40-acre plot is part of a larger 395-acre parcel in Uttarpara that the West Bengal government had initiated legal proceedings to reclaim around three years ago.

The government's push to reclaim the land stemmed from its desire to bring into productive use the vast tracts that had been lying dormant with Hindustan Motors, the historic manufacturer of the iconic Ambassador car. The transfer to Titagarh Rail Systems is expected to generate employment and further establish West Bengal as a hub for advanced railway manufacturing.

Titagarh Rail Systems, a prominent player in the rolling stock sector, is poised to leverage this new land to expand its production capacity, contributing significantly to India's burgeoning railway infrastructure projects.
