VSP to take up construction of second reservoir soon.

As part of efforts to meet the water requirement for its 6.3 million expansion project, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, has said that it will take up construction of second reservoir immediately after finalising the tenders.

Stating that the tender finalisation was at advance stage, a spokesman for RINL said due to deficiency in tender documents, they had asked the bidders to furnish more particulars. The documents submitted by them would be opened soon, he said. The project which includes construction of Kanithi Balancing Reservoir-2 and associated infrastructure will cost around Rs. 300 crore. The spokesman said the construction of KBR-2 would be taken up during the current year itself and completed as soon as possible.

Unprecedented water crisis faced by the VSP owing to depleting water levels in Yeleswaram and rising losses while supplying through Yeleru Canal brought to centre-stage the need for taking up construction of second reservoir.
