Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, announced recently that Indian Railways will soon begin development work at Delhi’s Anand Vihar and Sarai Rohilla railway stations, aiming to ease congestion and enhance commuter experiences while aligning the stations with global standards.
Officials revealed that at Anand Vihar, the development will include a residential facility, a three-star budget hotel, and a mall, all likely to be built under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Additionally, the existing railway overbridge at Anand Vihar will be widened to handle increased traffic, and a signal-free corridor connecting East Delhi's Anand Vihar to West Delhi's Zakhira is also in the works.
For Sarai Rohilla, plans focus on redeveloping the station with upgraded passenger amenities, improved accessibility, and better integration with public transport hubs.
Addressing the press, Bittu also critiqued the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), urging them to fulfill their unaddressed promises in Punjab before launching new schemes in Delhi, where assembly elections are scheduled for February 5. He accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of failing to implement key commitments, including the promised Rs 1,000 per month to women in Punjab, and pointed to an alarming increase in drug-related deaths in the state.
Bittu further criticized the AAP government in Punjab for the law and order situation, citing a rise in rape cases and the controversial downgrade of security for singer Sidhu Moose Wala, who was later assassinated. He also slammed the Delhi liquor excise policy, claiming it contributed to increased alcoholism.
