Uncertainty looms over PMC's stuck JNNURM projects.
The change of government at the Centre has made Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) unsure of the fate of projects funded by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in the city. Several projects have been stopped midway after fund flow dried up. Plans of water supply schemes under JNNURM are stuck. Projects pertaining to slum rehabilitation under the basic services to the urban poor (BSUP), besides stormwater drainage projects, feature prominently among incomplete projects that had been moving slow.
The civic body is not sure whether JNNURM will continue for existing JNNURM projects or the central government will come up with a fresh urban programme for new projects, and cover existing projects as well.
'Records with PMC show that under JNNURM, the civic body had undertaken 5 slum rehabilitation projects. The total budget was Rs. 221.48 crore. Of the five projects, only two were completed at a cost of Rs. 215.49 crore. While the central government released Rs. 83.54 crore, the state government released Rs. 38.79 crore for the project. The two projects are located in Warje and Hadapsar and of the 3,752 tenements 3,492 have been completed.
