TN Govt Greenlights ₹9,928 Crore Metro Link from Koyambedu to Pattabiram.

The Tamil Nadu government has granted its in-principle approval for a significant expansion of the Chennai Metro network, connecting Koyambedu to Pattabiram (Outer Ring Road) with a 21.76-kilometer metro line. A government order issued on April 28 by the Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Department pegs the estimated completion cost of this ambitious project at ₹9,928 crore.

The extensive project will not only enhance public transportation but also includes a highways component worth ₹464 crore for the construction of three crucial flyovers along the route, as detailed in the official release.

In a move signaling the project's progression, the state government has also approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR). This comprehensive report has now been recommended to the Central government for its necessary approvals and financial support. The funding model proposed includes equity sharing between the state and central governments, along with the exploration of loan assistance from bilateral and multilateral funding agencies.

This significant investment in metro rail infrastructure is expected to greatly improve connectivity to the western parts of Chennai, benefiting commuters and fostering economic growth in the region. The extension to Pattabiram on the Outer Ring Road will provide a vital link for residents and businesses in these areas, offering a faster and more efficient mode of transportation.
