CMC Vellore Secures ₹500 Crore Grant from Azim Premji Foundation for New Hospital in Chittoor.
Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore has received a ₹500 crore grant from the Azim Premji Foundation to establish a new medical college and teaching hospital at its Chittoor campus in Andhra Pradesh. The grant will also support the upgrade of the existing 120-bed hospital into a 422-bed teaching facility. This initiative will enable CMC Vellore to expand its renowned MBBS program, with a focus on Primary-cum-Secondary Health Care (PSHC) to address growing disparities in India’s healthcare system.
Dr. Vikram Mathews, Director of CMC Vellore, shared, “Our vision is for the new medical college and teaching hospital at Chittoor to serve as a replicable model for medical education, healthcare delivery, research, and outreach, all tailored to the financial, societal, and resource challenges of our country.”
This partnership strengthens the relationship between CMC Vellore and the Azim Premji Foundation, which began in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anurag Behar, CEO of the Azim Premji Foundation, remarked, “CMC Vellore is a model institution, and we are honored to support their efforts in establishing their second medical college.”
