TN Government Launches Renewable Energy Zone Initiative to Boost Solar and Wind Capacity.

The Tamil Nadu government has announced the creation of five renewable energy zones as part of its efforts to accelerate renewable power generation and strengthen the implementation of green energy projects across the State.

According to a statement issued by the Power Ministry, the initiative is being undertaken alongside a major administrative restructuring of Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd (TNGECL). The newly established renewable energy zones will be headquartered in Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore and Madurai.

The zones will serve as dedicated centres for coordinating and overseeing the development of wind and solar energy projects. They will be responsible for the administration, monitoring and execution of renewable energy initiatives across their respective regions.

In addition to renewable power projects, the zones will oversee the implementation of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects and key solar energy programmes, including PM-KUSUM, PM Rooftop Solar and other government-backed renewable energy schemes.

The government said the move is aimed at improving project execution, streamlining administration and supporting Tamil Nadu's renewable energy expansion plans as the State seeks to strengthen its position as a leading hub for solar and wind power generation in India.
