ThyssenKrupp plans Rs. 300-cr plant in Pune.
ThyssenKrupp AG will invest about Rs. 300 crore in to set up a new plant for producing high-tech elevators, in Pune. Seen as one of the major investments following the 'Make in India' campaign, the German-headquartered company's investment would reduce its import dependence to less than 10 per cent from 30 per cent.
Speaking to BusinessLine, Oliver Burkhard, Member of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp, said the demand for elevators is expected to increase in India with construction of high rise building becoming a common phenomenon. 'We would also like to introduce our new innovation in elevator which operates without the support of ropes and can move not only vertical but also horizontally,' he said. The Pune plant is expected to employ 200-250 people. The company will also provide training.
With the ThyssenKrupp Group rolling out the Multi-elevator technology, the era of the rope-dependent elevator has come to an end. Linear motors are placed in the elevator cabins, transforming conventional elevator transportation in vertical metro systems. The new technology increases transport capacities and efficiency with the provision to place several cabins in the same shaft. When designed at the time of construction, the technology can halve the space required for elevator installation to 20 per cent. Power consumption can also be reduced by moving the shafts efficiently.
Several cabins in the same shaft moving vertically and horizontally will permit buildings to adopt different heights, shapes and purposes. In the aerospace business, ThyssenKrupp has a tie-up with Boeing in the US and Airbus in Europe to handle the supply chain of metallic raw materials for its service centres. The company is planning to leverage these tie-ups when both airlines require a similar service in India, said Burkhard.
