Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced recently that the BJP-led NDA government will invest ₹2 lakh crore in road infrastructure projects in Telangana over the next three to four years. This substantial commitment was made during a ceremony where Gadkari laid the foundation stone and dedicated several road projects worth over ₹3,900 crore in the Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
Gadkari highlighted the significant progress made in the past decade, stating that the length of national highways in Telangana has more than doubled to 5,000 kilometers since he assumed office. "Roadworks are continuously being undertaken in 33 districts (of Telangana). So far, works worth ₹1.25 lakh crore have been completed. The development that you have seen now is just the tip of the iceberg. In the coming times, in the next 3-4 years, we are going to take up works worth ₹2 lakh crore in Telangana. It is my belief that after completion of these works, Telangana's image will transform," Gadkari said.
He reiterated the Narendra Modi-led central government's commitment to Telangana's development and offered to undertake water conservation projects under the Centre's 'Amrit Sarovar' scheme, seeking collaboration from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his cabinet.
Gadkari also noted that under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), roads have been constructed in 4.5 lakh out of the 6.5 lakh villages in India.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and Telangana Ministers Komatireddy Venkata Reddy and Danasari Anasuya Seethakka were among the dignitaries present at the event.
G. Kishan Reddy emphasized that these road and highway projects will provide safer and smoother connectivity between Telangana, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh, while also fostering new avenues for trade, tourism, and investment in the region.
