"Telangana Government to Develop AI City in Hyderabad"
The Telangana government has announced plans to develop an AI City on 200 acres near Hyderabad to position the city as a global hub for artificial intelligence. D Sridhar Babu, Minister for IT and Industries, revealed that detailed plans, including the project's cost, will be shared in October.
Speaking to the media, Babu mentioned that the government will engage with AI experts from India and abroad during the Global AI Summit, which is set to take place in Hyderabad on September 5 and 6. The summit is expected to attract leading IT companies, start-ups, and stakeholders in AI and Generative AI, with exclusive sessions focusing on the impact of AI on agriculture, law, and healthcare.
Babu emphasized Telangana’s potential to become the country’s AI hub and highlighted the state’s commitment to developing skilled AI professionals to support this growth. He acknowledged the potential for job displacement due to AI advancements but reassured that new job opportunities will emerge. “We should not shy away from embracing new technologies due to fears; we need to be well-prepared,” Babu stated.
Prashanth Nandella, President of the Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA), announced plans to establish AI labs in approximately 80 schools. The association aims to scale up these initiatives to equip students with AI skills and upskill over 10,000 students in AI and Generative AI. Nandella also noted that while AI might lead to some job losses, it will also create new roles in areas like cybersecurity and AI model training.
