Telangana CM Urges PM Modi to Approve Hyderabad Metro Phase-II, RRR South, and Musi Rejuvenation Funds.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approve Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II, which aims to enhance connectivity across the city. The project, covering a 76.4 km stretch across five corridors, is estimated to cost ₹24,269 crore. During a meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi on Wednesday, CM Reddy sought immediate approval for the expansion.

In addition to the metro expansion, the Chief Minister pressed for the sanction of the southern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), noting that 90% of land acquisition for the northern section is complete. He emphasized the need for simultaneous completion of both segments for full utilization of the project. CM Reddy also proposed a Regional Ring Rail project parallel to the RRR to improve railway connectivity in Telangana and neighboring states. The state government is willing to bear 50% of the land acquisition cost for the southern section, he assured the PM.

Highlighting Telangana’s landlocked status, CM Reddy requested the Centre's approval for a dry port near the RRR to boost trade. He further proposed a greenfield road and rail corridor connecting the dry port to a seaport and sought the Prime Minister’s approval for the initiative.

The Chief Minister also sought ₹20,000 crore in financial assistance for the Musi Rejuvenation Project, which aims to restore the river’s ecological and cultural significance. The plan includes the development of Bapu Ghat, construction of 27 sewage treatment plants (STPs), embankments, and linking the Musi and Godavari rivers. He also requested the transfer of 222.7 acres of defense land for the Gandhi Sarovar project.

CM Reddy raised concerns over the shortage of IPS officers in Telangana, citing rising cybercrime and drug trafficking cases. He pointed out that while the state was initially allotted 61 IPS cadre posts after bifurcation, only 15 additional posts were sanctioned in 2015. He urged the Centre to approve 29 more IPS posts to address law enforcement challenges.

Additionally, the Chief Minister made a strong case for Telangana to host the India Semiconductor Mission, arguing that the state has the necessary infrastructure and conditions to support the project. State IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu accompanied CM Reddy during the meeting.
