Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials on Tuesday to prepare a comprehensive report on metro rail connectivity between Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGI) and the proposed 'future city' on the outskirts of Hyderabad. He emphasized the need for expedited metro rail expansion works, particularly through the old city of Hyderabad.
During a meeting focused on Musi Riverfront Development and the Hyderabad metro, Reddy urged officials to address any challenges hindering the metro rail expansion, including issues related to land acquisition. He requested that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the metro rail expansion be finalized before the Dussehra festival in October, to be submitted to the central government.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the need to gather information on residents living in illegally occupied areas near lakes and drains along the Musi River, ensuring that eligible individuals receive ‘double bedroom houses’ to prevent homelessness.
Reddy stressed the importance of protecting the lakes from encroachments, proposing the installation of CCTV cameras at all lakes in the city, which should be connected to the police Command Control Centre. He directed officials to identify the Full Tank Level and Buffer Zones of lakes and other water bodies within the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Additionally, the Telangana government recently established the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA) to enhance city management.
Earlier, Revanth Reddy announced plans for a 'fourth city' at Mucharla, which would complement Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad, focusing on the development of an AI and health tourism hub, along with sports and other facilities on a grand scale. He referred to this upcoming area as the 'future city.'
