TCS commence work on development centre

Pune: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), IT services, business solutions and outsourcing organisation, commenced the construction of its largest development centre at the TCS Sahyadri Park in Hinjewadi in Pune.

Talking to presspersons, Mr S. Ramadorai, Chief Executive Officer, TCS and Mr S. Mahalingam, Chief Financial Officer, TCS said the park would be developed over 50 acres of land to create a capacity of 20,000 seats, with the first phase expected to be completed by March 2009 with 7,000 seats.

The entire facility would be completed by the end of 2010 with the second phase having a capacity of 7,000 seats and the third, 6,000 seats. An investment of Rs 450 crore will go into the facility for the first phase and Rs 250 crore each for the second and third phase, he said.

The facility is in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Phase One would include campus administration and visitor centre block with a 500-seat auditorium, a training and recruitment centre, central library, site utilities and the first software development block. Phase Two would have an employee amenity building with stores, bank and a childcare centre, and the third phase would have the sports facilities.

Developers:

The facility will be developed by Tata Realty and Infrastructure Ltd while Mr Frank Glynn of El Segundo, California has been appointed as the principal architect along with Edifice architects from Pune. Mr Frank was also the architect for the TCS facility in Sholinganallur, Chennai.

Mr Ramadorai said the new facility would provide product services to US-based company ArvinMeritor, an auto Commenting on the other expansion plans, Mr Ramadorai said it would be opening up its facilities in Nagpur and Ahmedabad and would be locating these facilities in the Special Economic Zones. The Nagpur facility, which began its construction in 2007, would be completed by November this year and would have a seating capacity of close to 8,000-10,000.

The Ahmedabad facility which would have a seating capacity of about 10,000 and would be completed by October this year. He noted that all its expansion plans would now be in the SEZs.

Asked whether TCS would be entering into newer areas as the banking and financial segment in the US was witnessing a slowdown, Mr Mahalingam added that it would not like to comment at present as it was in a silent period.
