Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin inaugurates 14 substations, lays foundation for eight more.

Chief minister M K Stalin recently inaugurated 14 new substations set up by Tangedco in different districts, apart from the 57 existing substations where old transformers have been replaced with new ones of higher capacity.

The new substations set up at 373.22 crore are located on Millers Road, Kannammapet, Vadapalani and Kodambakkam in Chennai, Anakaputhur in Chengalpattu district and in parts of Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts.

New transformers with additional capacity have been installed in 57 existing substations across the state at a cost of 91.57 crore.

The chief minister virtually laid foundation stones for another eight new substations to be set up in Karur, Cuddalore, Ariyalur and Thanjavur districts at a cost of 130 crore.

Meanwhile, electricity minister V Senthilbalaji said that the chief minister will launch the next phase of providing electricity connections to farmers in Aravakkurichi in Karur district on November 11. He said that the state government has already achieved the milestone of one lakh agri connections in 2021-22, and the target for 2022-23 is 50,000 connections. "The orders confirming the electricity supply will be issued to at least 20,000 farms at the event," said the minister.

He said that the state government will fulfil its poll promise of electricity supply to all 4.5 lakh farmers on the waiting list based on seniority.
