State to get 900 cr for intra-river linking projects.

Union water resources minister Uma Bharti said the Centre has allocated Rs. 900 crore for the three intra-river linking projects received from Bihar, maintaining that their successful implementation would also serve as a model for other states. Of the sum, Rs. 500 crore has been released and the remaining Rs. 400 crore would be released in due course, she said.

She said Rs. 900 crore allotted to Bihar is the biggest chunk of money given to any single state. The amount has been mobilized through World Bank loan. The three projects involving seven rivers of Bihar are Burhi Gandak-Ganga-Noon project, Kosi-Mechhi project and the Sakri-Nata project.

Uma, accompanied by senior officials of her department, held discussions with CM Jitan Ram Manjhi on matters related to water management in Bihar. Matters related to Ganga Action Plan were also discussed. Central officials also held discussions with the state government officials of the departments concerned.
