State Government Proposes Single Airport to Serve Northern Karnataka.
Karnataka is considering establishing a new airport in Kalyan Karnataka to enhance connectivity to the districts of Ballari, Koppala, and Vijayanagara, Infrastructure Development Minister M. B. Patil said recently.
Responding to a starred question in the Legislative Council, Patil said that a final decision on the airport’s location would be made only after a meeting with the Chief Minister and public representatives from all three districts.
The proposal to develop an airport in Ballari has been on the table since 2010. The state acquired 900 acres of land that year and awarded the contract to Chennai-based M/s Marg Sri Krishnadevaraya Airport Private Limited, but progress has been slow over the past decade.
Patil emphasized that the initiative aims to improve regional connectivity and support economic growth in Kalyan Karnataka, a region historically underserved in terms of air transport infrastructure.
