SCR commissions third line between Karavadi - Surareddipalem stations with electrification
The South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a significant milestone by commissioning the section between Karavadi and Surareddipalem, covering a distance of 20 kilometers. This accomplishment is part of the larger Vijayawada - Gudur tripling and electrification project.
The addition of a third line on this stretch, located in Prakasham District, extends the entire 81-kilometer distance between Bapatla and Surareddipalem with a third line facility, alongside electrification.
Situated along the Coastal region of Andhra Pradesh, the Vijayawada - Gudur route on SCR serves as a crucial link connecting the Northern and Eastern parts of the country with the Southern states. Over time, this route has witnessed a significant surge in both passenger and freight train traffic, leading to congestion issues.
In response to the growing demand and to alleviate congestion, the Vijayawada - Gudur third line project was sanctioned in 2015-16 for a total distance of 288 kilometers, with an approximate cost of ₹3,246 crore.
The execution of this project is being carried out by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd., with works progressing simultaneously across all stretches, as outlined in a release by SCR.
