Adani Group's Substantial Investment Continues at Mundra.

In a bold move, the Adani Group has revealed plans to invest a staggering ₹4 lakh crore, encompassing ongoing and new projects, over the next six years in Mundra, located in Gujarat's Kutcch region. This ambitious investment drive primarily focuses on expanding the port's infrastructure, incorporating the construction of a new berth designed to handle copper ore. Additionally, it encompasses the establishment of a copper smelter plant, a green hydrogen project, and a substantial commitment to renewable energy initiatives. Notably, the power sector is the only domain exempt from major expansion within this endeavor.

The Adani Group's cumulative investments in the Mundra region have already exceeded ₹70,000 crore, as emphasized in an advertisement issued by the group, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Mundra port. Over the last quarter-century, Mundra port has made a significant fiscal contribution, exceeding ₹2.25 lakh crore to both the State and National exchequers.

What was once barren land 25 years ago has since transformed into India's largest commercial port. It achieved a remarkable milestone in 2014 by handling 100 million tonnes (MT) of cargo, making it the first Indian port to do so at the time. Today, Mundra port manages a remarkable 155 MT of cargo, once again securing its status as a pioneer in India. This constitutes nearly 11 percent of the nation's maritime cargo volume. Mundra also serves as the primary EXIM gateway for container traffic, with a significant 33 percent of India's container traffic flowing through the port. This is facilitated by a dedicated freight corridor that offers the unique capability of double-stacking containers, effectively connecting the northern hinterland to Mundra.

To support this growing demand, the container terminals at Mundra are undergoing expansion, with plans to extend them by nearly 1 km, adding three additional berths to enhance the port's capabilities and capacity.
