SAP Labs India is poised to unveil its expansive 41-acre campus in Devanahalli, Bengaluru, during the second half of this year, a move expected to significantly boost its seating capacity by an additional 15,000. This new facility underscores India's growing strategic importance as a global development hub for the enterprise software giant.
Currently, SAP Labs India, which commenced operations in 1988, employs 14,000 individuals across five key Indian cities: Bengaluru, Gurugram, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune. The new Devanahalli campus will further solidify Bengaluru's position as SAP's largest research and development hub outside of Germany.
Mohammed Alam, Executive Board of SAP and Head of the company’s Product & Engineering, highlighted the significance of the upcoming facility during SAP Sapphire Orlando: 2025. "India is one of our largest development centres and our new facility, which will be opened later this year, will add to our capacity," Alam stated, adding that the sheer size of the new campus will enable it to function as a "self-sufficient and decoupled environment" from a product engineering perspective. He made these remarks in response to questions concerning potential impacts of trade restrictions and visa policies.
The Bengaluru-based SAP Labs is at the forefront of innovating crucial Artificial Intelligence (AI) use cases and drivers across SAP's entire solution portfolio, ranging from S/4HANA to HXM and the latest sustainability suite of solutions. A company official revealed that a remarkable one-quarter of all patents filed by SAP globally originate from India, a testament to the country's pivotal role in the company's innovation strategy.
