Safran and PTC Industries Ink Deal for Casting Parts Supply to Power LEAP Engine for Single-Aisle Jet
French aerospace engine leader Safran Aircraft Engines and Indian-based PTC Industries have recently entered into a multi-year contract aimed at fostering industrial cooperation for the production of casting parts for LEAP engines. This collaboration aligns with Safran Aircraft Engines' commitment to the Indian Government's "Make in India" policy, emphasizing the development of a comprehensive aero engines ecosystem in India.
As per the agreement, PTC Industries, headquartered in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), will be responsible for manufacturing titanium-casting parts crucial for Safran Aircraft Engines. This strategic move is geared towards reinforcing the global supply chain in preparation for the production ramp-up of the LEAP engine, which powers single-aisle jets. The initial delivery of titanium casting parts for LEAP engines is anticipated in early 2024.
Sachin Agarwal, Chairman & Managing Director of PTC Industries, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "We are delighted to develop a new cooperation with one of the world-leading aircraft engine manufacturers. Through this partnership, we are looking forward to leveraging our expertise in casting processes to support the ambitious production challenges of the LEAP program."
Dominique Dupuy, Vice President Purchasing at Safran Aircraft Engines, emphasized the significance of PTC Industries expanding the global supply chain for their company. He noted, "PTC, with its investment in its new facilities in Lucknow, paves the way to a successful cooperation over the coming years."
Safran Aircraft Engines, along with other Safran entities, has a strong presence in India, boasting five production facilities across Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Goa. A sixth site dedicated to LEAP Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) activities is slated to be established in Hyderabad by 2025. India stands as the third-largest operator of the LEAP engine globally, with 75% of the country's commercial aircraft equipped with CFM's advanced turbofan. Presently, Indian airlines have placed orders for more than 2,200 LEAP engines, underscoring the substantial impact of this collaboration on the Indian aviation landscape.
