Rs. 1,600 crore for roads.
Haryana Public Works (Building and Roads) and Public Health Engineering Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Sunday said that Rs. 1,600 crore would be spent on construction and repair of roads across the State. The repair work would begin soon after the monsoon.
At a function at Sector 22, Mr. Singh said that the government was working to provide basic facilities like roads and drinking water. He urged people to ensure installation of taps on water connections to stop wastage.
However, the roads falling within the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) limits will not be covered.
'The Sohna, Badshahpur and Pataudi Assembly constituencies in Gurgaon will be covered under the project. The areas falling under the Gurgaon Assembly constituency are the responsibility of the MCG. The Minister has announced Rs. 90 crore for Pataudi which has been neglected for long. Similarly, Rs. 40 crore and Rs. 20 crore have been announced for Badshahpur and Sohna,” said a close aide of Mr. Singh.
Almost all roads in the city are damaged following the heavy rain earlier this month. The arterial roads like Golf Course Road, Gurgaon-Faridabad road, and Sohna Road are the worst-hit. The top layer of most roads has been washed away.
'Of course, it is difficult to driver on roads ridden with big pot holes. The situation becomes worse when there are no signboards to caution commuters,' said Rajeev Gupta, a motorist.
Golf Course Road, which was re-carpeted recently under the DLF-HUDA expressway project, has been ridden with potholes after the first spell of shower.
The authorities had then claimed the bitumen used was of the highest quality. The condition of roads at Orchid Centre, Mayfield Garden, Sushant Lok-I, Sector 57, Sector 30, and Sector 31 is worse. Similarly, HUDA-Rajesh Pilot Marg, New Railway Road, Old Railway Road, and Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road are in a bad shape.
Mr. Singh also said that soon the construction work of underpass would start at three busy crossings of Rajiv Chowk, Signature Tower, and IFFCO Chowk. The underpass would ease congestion of traffic.
