The first phase of the Maan–Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar stretch of Pune Metro Line 3, comprising 12 stations, is likely to become operational by June, according to officials.
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is aiming to complete the required works by the end of May, following a recent review meeting led by its newly appointed commissioner, Abhijit Chaudhari.
Officials said that while 12 stations are expected to be ready by May-end, work on the remaining 11 stations is progressing in parallel. The full 23.2-km elevated corridor is likely to be operational by September. Delays in completing entry and exit points, along with associated passenger access infrastructure, have slowed progress on some stations.
PMRDA has directed the concessionaire, Tata Group, to accelerate construction and adhere to timelines. The Metro Line 3 project, which is crucial for connectivity to Hinjewadi IT Park, is in its final stages, with about 94.2% of the overall work completed. Signalling trials are currently underway, alongside other inspections.
Chaudhari has reviewed construction quality, technical challenges and station readiness, instructing contractors to expedite the remaining work. Officials said priority is being given to completing station access, passenger facilities and operational systems ahead of the planned June rollout.
Once operational, the line is expected to ease traffic congestion on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar corridor and significantly improve commute times for thousands of IT professionals who currently face long hours on the road.
Reiterating the timeline, Chaudhari said PMRDA is working in mission mode, in line with directions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, to fast-track execution without compromising safety and quality.
However, some commuters remain sceptical about the June launch, citing possible delays due to the upcoming monsoon season and pending works.
