PCB Demands More Information on Units Without Wastewater Treatment Near Thevara-Perandoor Canal.
The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (PCB) has written to the Kochi Corporation, requesting a comprehensive list of all apartment complexes and commercial units near the Thevara-Perandoor canal that are not complying with wastewater treatment norms.
The move comes after the board’s Ernakulam district office observed that the issue extends beyond the 72 units that had already received notices for lacking proper wastewater treatment facilities. This was brought to the board’s attention by some apartment owners' associations during their own submissions.
The PCB had previously instructed the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to disconnect power to the initial 72 non-compliant units located along the Thevara-Perandoor and Edappally canals. While over 40 of these units have asked for more time to comply with the regulations, the PCB is now broadening its investigation.
The Kochi Corporation's health wing had already inspected the 72 units in question and had instructed them to follow the board’s directives. The PCB will now decide on further action for all remaining non-compliant buildings once it receives the corporation's full report.
