ONGC Targets October 2026 for Major Mumbai High Production Boost.

The Mumbai High oilfield, a crown jewel for state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), is set to see a significant boost in production by October 2026, according to company officials.

ONGC Chairman AK Singh confirmed the timeline, noting that complex exploration and production projects require time. "Nothing happens overnight," Singh told reporters after the company's annual general meeting. "Anything you touch, it takes a year or two because first you identify the problem, then you design a solution, then you procure, install, and commission. This process for even the smallest E&P project takes time."

This development follows ONGC's partnership with BP Exploration (Alpha), a BP subsidiary, which was brought in as a technical services provider for Mumbai High in January 2025. The move was a strategic effort to address the long-term decline in crude oil production at the field.

Discovered by ONGC in 1974, Mumbai High began production in 1976 and accounts for roughly one-third of India’s total oil output. The planned enhancements are crucial for the country's energy security and for revitalizing a key asset that has been in operation for nearly five decades.
