Noney Bridge Girder Launch Completed by Northeast Frontier Railway.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced a significant leap forward in the construction of the Jiribam–Imphal railway line with the successful completion of girder launching on Bridge No. 164, famously known as the Noney Bridge, in Manipur. This achievement marks a pivotal moment for the ambitious railway project, which aims to enhance connectivity across the northeastern region.

The Noney Bridge is a centerpiece of the 111-kilometer Jiribam–Imphal railway project and is distinguished by what are claimed to be the tallest railway bridge piers in the world, soaring to an impressive height of 141 meters. According to an ANI report, the final span of the bridge was recently launched, bringing all eight spans of the colossal structure to completion.

Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, emphasized the significance of this milestone. "This achievement marks a significant milestone in the construction of the bridge, which is not only an engineering structure but also a vital link in the region's transport network," Sharma stated. He further highlighted the bridge's global distinction, noting, "What sets this bridge apart globally is its record-breaking piers—P3 and P4—each rising to an astounding height of 141 metres."

The bridge's design features a span configuration of 1x71.5m + 5x106m + 1x71.5m + 1x30m. This intricate design is tailored to navigate the challenging hilly terrain and deep valleys of the region while adhering to stringent geological and climatic demands. Sharma lauded the meticulous planning, advanced construction methods, and dedicated efforts of the NFR team for the successful completion of the superstructure launching.

The Jiribam–Imphal railway project is a key component of the government's broader initiative to bolster connectivity in the northeast. The Jiribam–Khongsang section, spanning 55.36 kilometers, was commissioned in September 2022 and currently facilitates goods trains carrying essential supplies. The remaining sections, Khongsang–Noney (18.25 km) and Noney–Imphal (37.02 km), are slated for commissioning in the coming years.

"Upon completion, the Jiribam–Imphal railway line will transform connectivity in Manipur, driving economic growth and regional development," Sharma affirmed, underscoring the long-term impact of this monumental infrastructure project.
