New collectorate complex yet to become functional.

More than three months after the new Collectorate building was inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, the spacious complex on Vazhudavur Road is yet to be put to effective use with Revenue and other line departments continuing to function from the old premises.

“The Project Implementation Agency (PIA) has completed the civil and electrical works in the building. We had planned to move into the building by November but there has been some delay in procuring furniture for the complex. The shifting of the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management and other allied offices in the old complex is expected to begin from January,” a senior Revenue department official told The Hindu .

While the Departments of Revenue and Disaster Management, Hindu Religious Institutions and the Wakf Board will be relocated to the new premises the list of other offices to be shifted is yet to be finalised.

Several key government departments including Information Technology, Registration, office of the Deputy Collector (North) and allied offices functioning in cramped premises have requested the Government to accommodate them in the old complex located on Kamaraj Salai in Saram.
