Nagpur's Outer Ring Road to Open in March.
Nagpur’s long-awaited 64-km Outer Ring Road, built at a cost of Rs. 2,000 crore, is set to be fully operational by the first week of March. The project, undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), aims to ease congestion by diverting heavy vehicles away from the city and improving connectivity to distant parts of Nagpur.
While the first phase of the road, spanning 37 km, is already in use, the remaining 27-km stretch will open early next month, according to sources. The ring road begins at Jamtha along Wardha Road and extends through the Samruddhi Expressway junction, Katol Road, Koradi, Fetri, and Nagpur-Jabalpur Highway before concluding at Nagpur bypass near Kapsi. The second phase completes the loop from Fetri to Kapsi.
Once fully operational, the Outer Ring Road will allow highway traffic to bypass city roads entirely. Trucks from Hyderabad will be able to take a direct route toward Jabalpur, while vehicles from Betul in Madhya Pradesh can head straight to Bhandara, connecting further to Kolkata. Similarly, traffic from Amravati Road in the west will gain seamless access to Bhandara Road in the east.
The new road complements an existing bypass near Kapsi that facilitates direct highway travel while avoiding city congestion. While Nagpur already has an inner ring road built by the PWD, the growing traffic demand led to the proposal of a larger outer ring road by NHAI.
The distance between the inner and outer ring roads varies, being closest at Koradi with a 5-km gap and ranging between 8 to 10 km in other areas, sources said.
