Mumbai: Railways Approves Rs. 185 Crore for New Station Between Thane & Mulund.
In a significant development, the long-awaited suburban railway station project linking Thane and Mulund received a major boost on Wednesday. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav approved an allocation of Rs 185 crore for crucial components such as platforms, tracks, and other essential facilities, according to officials from the Thane municipal corporation.
The announcement followed a pivotal meeting at Rail Bhavan in New Delhi, where a delegation including Shiv Sena MPs Naresh Mhaske and Dr. Shrikant Shinde, representing Thane and Kalyan respectively, along with Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, presented the project's case to Vaishnav.
Initially estimated at Rs 264 crore, the project's operational area development, including an administration building, track laying, and platform construction, will now benefit from the allocated funds previously set aside under Thane Municipal Corporation's smart city initiative. This move is expected to ease financial strain on the municipal body and prevent potential project delays, sources close to the matter indicated.
However, responsibilities remain with the TMC for funding development in the station's surrounding areas, including roads, elevated highways connections, parking facilities, and bus stations.
Commencing in 2019, the project has achieved about 30% completion and is scheduled for full operational readiness by December 2025. Once operational, the new station aims to alleviate passenger congestion at the existing Thane station, providing a convenient transit option for commuters from nearby Mulund and Ghodbunder areas in Thane.
