Mumbai Port revises tariff to attract additional cargoes

Mumbai: The Mumbai Port has announced fresh concessions in its various rates for port users. The concessions include reduction in stevedoring charges for midstream discharge from 120 per cent to 70 per cent.

It has reduced rates of Rs 2,600 per TEU for stuffing of containers and Rs 2,800 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) for de-stuffing and reduced storage charges for empty container at Rs 10 per TEU at Golden Yard, Wadala.

Further, for empty containers generated after de-stuffing at CFSs, the charges will be $2.5 (Rs 115.75) for three days from the date of de-stuffing and at reduced rates of $0.5 (Rs 23.15) from the fourth day onward till the date of removal or stuffing.

The port registered a throughput of 21.30 million tonnes in the first five months of the current fiscal as against 18.32 million tones in the corresponding period of last fiscal, recording a 16.24 per cent increase. The commodities that have been major contributors to the increase in throughput include iron, steel, pulses, sugar and POL.

During the last three years the traffic at Mumbai Port has been on the rise with the port handling 29.95 million tonnes in 2003-04, 35.11 million tonnes in 2004-05 and reaching an all time high of 44.19 million tonnes in 2005-06.
