Mumbai: Nariman Point to Mira-Bhayander in 30 Minutes Soon, Says Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik.
Mumbaikars can look forward to a significant reduction in travel time between the city center and northern suburbs, as Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that the upcoming Dahisar-Bhayander highway will cut the journey from Nariman Point to Mira-Bhayander to just 30 minutes via the coastal road.
The announcement follows a crucial land transfer from the Union Salt Commissioner to the Maharashtra government, which clears a major obstacle that had delayed the project for years. The state has acquired 53.17 acres of salt land in Thane district on a 99-year lease, enabling the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation to advance the construction of a 60-metre-wide highway.
Sarnaik credited persistent follow-ups over the past four to five years for securing the land transfer. “This paves the way for the road’s construction from Dahisar to Bhayander and further to Vasai-Virar,” he said.
The ₹3,000 crore project, to be executed by L.E.T. Company and funded by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, is expected to be completed within three years. The coastal road will extend to Uttan, connect to Mira Road via the new Dahisar-Bhayander route, and further link Vasai and Virar.
After initial resistance from Uttan fishermen over the coastal alignment, the government revised the route to address their concerns.
Sarnaik expressed confidence that the new connectivity will transform Mira-Bhayander into a major suburb with seamless, faster access to South Mumbai.
The Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry confirmed the lease of 215,189 square meters (53.17 acres) of salt land at ₹12.89 crore, marking a significant step toward enhancing Mumbai’s transport infrastructure.
For daily commuters, this project promises a future where the distance between South Mumbai and Mira-Bhayander feels much shorter than ever before.
