Mumbai airport T1 to undergo revamp, will handle 20 million passengers per year.
Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) announced plans to begin the reconstruction of Mumbai’s Terminal 1 (T1) in November, increasing its passenger handling capacity by 42% to 20 million annually. The redevelopment is expected to be completed by FY29, with existing passenger traffic temporarily shifted to Terminal 2 and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, set to commence operations in May 2025 following its inauguration on April 17.
Currently, Mumbai’s Terminal 1 handles 15 million passengers per year, serving airlines such as Akasa Air, IndiGo, and SpiceJet. The upgraded terminal will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, a modern baggage handling system, and enhanced multi-modal transit options. Sustainability will be a key focus in the new design.
“This redevelopment is not just about expanding capacity—it is about future-proofing our city’s place on the global stage. Our priority remains delivering the exceptional service that passengers have come to expect,” said Jeet Adani, Director, AAHL.
