Mumbai Airport Completes Post-Monsoon Maintenance of Both Runways
Adani Group-owned Mumbai Airport announced reccently that it has successfully completed its annual post-monsoon maintenance on both runways. The maintenance work, which began at 11 am and concluded at 5 pm, necessitated the suspension of flight operations during this period.
Following six hours of thorough inspections and repairs, the airport resumed regular operations. To ensure minimal disruption, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued six months in advance, allowing airlines and stakeholders to adjust their schedules accordingly.
The annual maintenance routine is designed to proactively assess and address any surface degradation caused by the monsoon rains, thereby restoring the runway infrastructure to uphold the highest safety and operational standards.
Key maintenance activities included the installation of runway edge lights at the intersection of runway 14/32, clearing debris from underground ducts beneath runway 09-27, validating the strength of the Runway End Safety Area (RESA) for runways 09 and 27, and conducting extensive repair work at runway intersections.
Additionally, the maintenance team inspected over 5,000 aeronautical ground lights, drainage pits, chambers, and critical cables used for lighting, IT, and navigational aids. Engineering and airside teams also examined the runways for surface texture and signs of erosion, addressing all necessary repairs during the scheduled closure.
