Samvardhana Motherson International Limited, through its energy arm Motherson New Energy Limited (MNEL), has commissioned its first ground-mounted captive solar power project in Uttar Pradesh via its subsidiary Onega Solar Private Limited.
The 15 MWp solar facility, located in Mahoba, will supply renewable electricity to multiple Motherson manufacturing units across the state. The project marks a key milestone in the group’s transition toward clean energy adoption across its manufacturing footprint.
Developed as a group captive renewable energy project, the plant is expected to generate around 23.4 GWh of electricity annually and help reduce approximately 17,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. The project is also expected to enhance long-term energy cost visibility, improve operational resilience, and reduce dependence on conventional power sources.
The solar project has been developed in partnership with ib vogt, which supported the initiative through land acquisition, regulatory approvals, technical design, and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) execution.
According to the company, the commissioning of the plant strengthens its broader strategy of integrating renewable energy across its global manufacturing operations while supporting long-term sustainability and energy security objectives. MNEL said it continues to evaluate additional renewable energy projects across multiple Indian states as part of its expansion roadmap.
Vice Chairman Laksh Vaaman Sehgal said the project reflects sustainability being embedded into Motherson’s long-term value creation strategy and strengthens its efforts toward building resilient and future-ready operations. COO of the energy business Kunal Vohra added that reliable access to competitively priced renewable power is increasingly critical for manufacturing competitiveness and that the project lays the foundation for scaling the company’s clean energy portfolio.
ib vogt Solar India CEO and Managing Director Parish Gupta noted that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to accelerating industrial decarbonization through commercially viable renewable energy solutions.
